CMMC works to build the talent pipeline in manufacturing by promoting careers in manufacturing, supporting industry driven partnerships, and serving as an Apprenticeship Navigator to educate small and medium sized fabricated metal, machinery and equipment manufacturers on the South Side of the City of Chicago and the South Suburbs of Cook County about the use of apprenticeships to retain, train and attract a skilled workforce.

Initiatives include:

 

MFG Day: Promote careers in manufacturing to high school students by providing tours of local manufacturing companies and training partners. CMMC assists with outreach to high schools and employers, coordinates planning efforts, and brings partners together to continue engagement throughout the year.

Southworks Engineering & Robotics Competition: Provide an opportunity for local and regional manufacturing companies to sponsor and partner with local high schools to develop individual projects for the annual Spring Competition. Learn more here.

Apprenticeship Navigator: CMMC engages with manufacturers that have identified a need to develop their talent pool. Apprentices are one great way to address these needs. We work with our partners to identify resources and assist employers with walking through the process. The Illinois Apprenticeship Expansion program provides funds to support the County’s work as an Apprenticeship Navigator.

Panels and Round-table Discussions: In addition, we host panels and discussions to answer questions you might have about your talent needs and showcase successful apprenticeships across the region.
